Refund and Cancellation Policy

When you can get your money back, how to cancel or move your date, how to ask, and how long it takes.

Effective 7 October 2026
An RSVIP invitation is a digital service that starts as soon as it is activated. That is why most refunds are only possible before we begin creating it. A mistaken or duplicate payment is always refunded, and nothing here limits a right you have under South African law.

Who you are dealing with

RSVIP is a digital invitation, RSVP and event-communication platform for weddings and every other kind of event, operated by Kanvas Creative Solutions in South Africa. We provide the platform to hosts and organisers, and deliver their invitations to the guests they invite.

1. The short version

  • Charged twice, or the wrong amount, or paid and the invitation could not be activated: refunded in full.
  • Changed your mind within seven days, before creation has started: refunded in full under the cooling-off right.
  • Cancelling later, but at least 48 hours before creation begins: refunded less a 25% administrative fee.
  • Once creation of your invitation has begun, or after the event date: no refund.
  • Event postponed: we move your date for a R150 administrative fee.
  • Event cancelled by you after creation: no refund, but your invitation can be updated to tell your guests.
  • All refunds are in South African Rand, to the payer, through the original payment method wherever possible.

2. When a refund is always due

  • you were charged more than once for the same invitation, or charged more than the price shown at checkout;
  • your payment succeeded but the invitation could not be activated, and we cannot fix it within a reasonable time;
  • a payment was taken in error, for example a test or a duplicate order; or
  • the law otherwise requires it, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008.

In these cases you receive the full amount paid, including any processing cost, and the 25% fee does not apply.

3. Cooling-off under the ECT Act

Because you buy online, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 gives you a cooling-off right: you may cancel within seven days of payment, without reason or penalty, and receive a full refund within 30 days of cancelling.

The right does not apply to a service that has begun with your agreement before the seven days end. Building an invitation is that kind of service: once you, or we on your instruction, start creating your invitation, the cooling-off right falls away and section 5 applies instead.

4. Cancelling before creation begins

After the seven-day cooling-off period, you may still cancel a paid invitation up to 48 hours before service delivery begins - that is, before the invitation has been created or customised. The refund is the amount paid less a 25% administrative fee, which covers payment processing, account set-up and administration.

5. After creation has started, or after the event

Once creation of your invitation has begun - the invitation exists and has been edited, published or shared - the service has been delivered and the payment is not refundable. The same applies to any invitation once its event date has passed.

This does not affect a refund that is always due under section 2, or a remedy the law gives you if the service is defective and we cannot put it right.

6. Postponing your event

If your event moves, we update the date on your invitation for a R150 administrative fee. Your invitation, guest list, responses, galleries and remaining SMS credits carry over. Tell your guests the new date using the invitation's own messaging tools.

A postponement is not a cancellation, and it does not reopen the right to a refund.

7. If your event is cancelled

A cancelled event does not qualify for a refund once service delivery has begun. Your invitation remains available until the end of the retention period, and we recommend updating it with a notice to your guests. If you cancel before creation begins, sections 3 and 4 apply.

8. SMS credits, coupons and affiliate commission

  • SMS credits included with an invitation have no cash value and are not refunded. Credits for messages that fail to send are returned to the invitation's balance.
  • Coupons and discounts: you are refunded what you actually paid. A used coupon is not refunded as cash and may not be reusable.
  • Affiliate commission earned on a payment that is later refunded or reversed is reversed with it.
  • Custom features quoted and built separately are refundable only as the written quote for them says.

9. How to claim a refund

  1. Email us at rsvp@kanvas.co.za from the email address on your RSVIP account.
  2. Tell us which invitation, the payment reference or date, and why you are asking for a refund.
  3. Give repayment details when asked. Card payments are reversed to the card where PayFast supports it; otherwise we ask for a South African bank account in the payer's name.
  4. We decide under this Policy and confirm in writing what will be refunded and when.
  5. We pay and confirm, and the invitation is deactivated if the whole payment is refunded.

Never send a card number, PIN or password by email.

10. How long it takes

  • Acknowledgement: within one business day.
  • Decision: within five business days.
  • Payment once approved: normally within ten business days, and within 30 days of a cooling-off cancellation as the law requires.
  • Card reversals can take a further three to ten business days to appear, depending on your bank. EFT repayments usually reflect within two business days of being sent.

11. Chargebacks and disputes with your bank

If you ask your bank to reverse a payment before contacting us, the money is frozen while PayFast investigates, which usually takes longer than a refund from us. Please contact us first. If we cannot resolve it, your right to approach your bank, the National Consumer Commission, a consumer ombud or a court is unaffected.

Where a chargeback is raised on an invitation that was created and used, we may give PayFast the account and activity records as evidence, and may suspend the invitation while the dispute is open.

12. Cancelling or deactivating an invitation

You can take an invitation offline from your dashboard by marking it inactive, or ask us to do it. Deactivating does not by itself entitle you to a refund; sections 3 to 5 decide that. The invitation, its responses and photos are kept until the retention period ends, so you can still download them.

13. Closing your account

Email rsvp@kanvas.co.za from your account's own address and we will close it. Download anything you want to keep first. Most information is deleted within 30 days of closure, but payment and transaction records are kept for seven years because tax and company law require it; the Privacy Policy explains what is kept. RSVIP is paid per invitation, not by subscription, so there is nothing recurring to stop.

An affiliate partner closing an account may first withdraw their available balance.

14. When RSVIP cancels

We may cancel a payment, deactivate an invitation or suspend an account where a payment fails, is reversed or is suspected to be fraudulent; where an invitation is unlawful, offensive or breaks the Terms; where the law, a court or PayFast requires it; or where an order was created in error. Where we cancel and the fault is not yours, you are refunded in full.

15. Getting help

Email or call or WhatsApp (+27) 081 788 0727. Support hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00 (SAST), excluding public holidays.

This Policy forms part of the Terms of Service and does not limit any right you have under South African law.
